Reykjanes (Reykjanes peninsula (SW Iceland)): (7 May) The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) recorded an earthquake with magnitude M 2.3 at 00:49 local time occurred in Grindavík area.
Seismic activity is still ongoing on Reykjanes peninsula but number of earthquakes has decreased significantly in recent weeks. This seismic activity is due to deformation in the area but the most likely explanation of the deformation are magmatic intrusions. Since mid April there has no uplift been detected around Mt. Þorbjörn but minor ground deformation is still being detected over a greater area in Reykjanes peninsula.
