Vulcanian activity continues from the summit crater after powerful eruptions that occurred last week.
On 17 May at 18:54 local time a strong explosion at the volcano generated a dense dark ash plume, which rose approx. 3,280 ft (1,000 m) above the summit and drifted E.

Ibu (Halmahera, Indonesia): On 17 May Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin recorded and ash plume that reached 14,000 ft (4,300 m) altitude and drifted west.
There is a 2 km exclusion zone around the main crater in place and 3,5 km zone away on the N side.

Semeru (East Java, Indonesia): (18 May) On 16 May Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin recorded an explosion that generated a dark ash plume, which reached approx. 46,000 ft (14,000 m) altitude. Volcanic ash is dispersed towards the east and causes ash fall on the volcano's slopes.
Lava flows on the southeast flank remain active, currently about 4,921 ft (1,500 m) long.

Popocatépetl (Central Mexico): Mild explosive activity continues from the volcano. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington reported intermittent emissions of volcanic ash plumes.
