Katla (Southern Iceland): The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) recorded an earthquake with magnitude M 3.3 that occurred at 05:36 local time this morning. Another earthquake with magnitude M 2.7 occurred at 01:59 local time today. Few smaller earthquakes have also been detected.
Increased seismic activity at the volcano has been measured during the past years.

Nishino-shima (Volcano Islands, Japan): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 17000 ft (5200 m) altitude or flight level 170 and is moving at 15 kts in N direction.

A spectacular vulcanic explosion from the crater occurred at 09:58 local time yesterday. A dense ash plume reached approx. 24,000 ft (7,300 m) altitude. Volcanic ash is dispersed towards the west-southwest and causes ash fall on the volcano's slopes that is expected in Ecatzingo, San Juan Tepecoculco, San Andrés Tlalamac, San Pedro, Tetela del Volcán, Texcala, Jumiltepec, Ocuituco and Yecapixtla.
46 emissions of gas and steam plumes with ash content occurred and drifted W-SW.
