Etna (Sicily, Italy): (17 Aug) Increasing strombolian activity continues at the saddle vent of the New SE crater.
On 14 August at 10:49 local time strombolian explosions produced a dark ash plumes which fluctuated a lot in frequency of explosions. The plume containing moderate amount of ash extended to the south-southeast of the volcano. Ashfall was reported in the area of Pedara, Trecastagni and Viagrande.

Nishino-shima (Volcano Islands, Japan): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 10000 ft (3000 m) altitude or flight level 100 and is moving at 10 kts in SW direction.

Currently, the ash plume is being swirled around in the area by the tropical depression Six, which weakened from the previous category of tropical storm. The plume contains sulfur dioxide (SO2), ash particles and other aerosols from the volcano, as can be seen in the Himawari satellite image. ... read all
