Shiveluch (Kamchatka): Water is a key ingredient for fuelling explosive volcanic eruptions. Water-rich magma contains higher proportions of volatiles (gases), increasing buoyancy and therefore driving the upward movement of the magma to the surface. The increase in gases within the magma also increases the pressure, causing the explosive nature of eruptions with this magmatic composition.
New research published in Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology has found that the world’s most active volcano, Shiveluch, located on the Kamchatka peninsula in Far Eastern Russia, contains much more water within its magma than previously suggested.

Kilauea (Hawai'i): (2 Feb) Seismic station of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded a volcano-tectonic earthquake with magnitude M 4.1 located beneath the southern flank of the volcano at depth 6 km (4 miles) at about 14:09 local time yesterday. The earthquake was centered about 13 km (8 miles) south of Fern Forest, near the Hōlei Pali area of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park with weak to light shaking that has been reported across the Island of Hawai'i.
According to HVO scientist, David Phillips, the earthquake had no impact on the ongoing effusive eruption at Kīlauea's summit.

Villarrica (Central Chile): The activity of the volcano remains stable at low levels characterized near-constant degassing from the crater. Emissions of water vapor and gases generated a white dense ash column rising several 300 m above the summit as can be seen in the video.
The small lava pond in the summit crater, first observed in Nov last year, has remained essentially unchanged.
