Stromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): The visual activity at the volcano remains at typical low to moderate levels, characterized by weak to moderate strombolian explosions mainly from the NE vent, as well as spattering and puffing from other vents in the crater terrace.

As of 3 Feb, similar to the previous days, degassing and explosive activity have been low to medium. The number of explosions recorded at the NE vent was 26 during 24 hours, or little more than one per hour, with rather low ejection velocities (18 m/s) of volcanic material.


Etna (Sicily, Italy): The volcano continues to produce spectacular strombolian-type explosions involving several of its summit craters.
Protagonist of this activity remains the New SE crater with two active vents, followed by less-intense activity at the Voragine and occasionally Bocca Nuova central craters.

At the same time, micro-seismic activity remains elevated. A small swarm of magnitudes at shallow depth beneath the summit region has been detected during the past 24 hours. So far, there have been 15 quakes of magnitudes up to 2.1.

Suwanose-jima (Ryukyu Islands): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 4000 ft (1200 m) altitude or flight level 040 and is moving at 15 kts in SE direction.

Raung (East Java): (3 Feb) The explosive activity of the volcano continues at elevated levels since 21 January as the alert level was raised to "orange".
The volcano generates near-constant emissions of ash, gas and steam from the summit vent that rose to estimated 14,000 ft (4,300 m) altitude. Volcanic ash is dispersed towards the east and south.

The explosive eruption of the volcano is accompanied by frequent steam glow visible from the summit crater at night. Glow suggests continued rise of fresh magma that could be rising inside the volcano's conduits.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.

White Island (New Zealand): (3 Feb) Over the last year, a series of thermal infrared images have been regularly collected by helicopter to observe the temperature of steam and gas vents as reported GNS volcanological observatory. Temperatures have shown a gradual decline since the December 2019 eruption, from over 700 °C in February 2020 to 300 °C on 21 January 2021. The gas emission temperatures are now similar to temperatures measured in July 2018.
During January 2021, GNS Science continued monitoring of Whakaari/White Island by observation flights and measurement of gas emission rates, and with automatic earthquake, camera and ground deformation observations. Recent observations confirmed no evidence of recent eruptive activity, or signs of collapse in or near the active vents. There is little water ponded on the floor of the 1978/90 Crater.

Volcanic steam and gas continue to be emitted from the active vents and lava extrusions in the area that erupted in December last year. The most recent observations are some of the lowest gas emissions measured since the 2019 eruption and are now close to those observed in early-2019.
The Volcanic Alert Level remains at 1 and the Aviation Colour Code remains at Green.

Pacaya (Guatemala): The volcano continues to effuse the lava flow on the southwest flank at moderate levels.
