...17 Aug:
Given bad weather conditions in the eruption area, the site will be closed for tourists today.
A yellow weather alert status is in effect for the SW part of Iceland as a storm may reached up to 13-20 m/s accompanied by rain. Strong wing gusts are expected to occur near Kjalarnes and Hafnarfjall mountains which likely exceed 25 m/s.
Very poor conditions for outdoor activities such as hiking.
Ibu (Halmahera, Indonesia): The PVMBG observatory's surveillance cameras observed a quite strong eruption at the volcano at 14:54 local time yesterday.
An increasingly larger grey ash plume was seen rising to estimated 2,8 km altitude spreading south.

Erta Ale (Danakil depression, Ethiopia): Our expedition leader and guide from VolcanoDiscovery Ethiopia, Enku Mulugeta, visited the volcano in early August to make new observations.
The lava lake continues to occupy the central part of the southern pit crater erupting small lava fountains. A continuous spattering continues to eject hot, juvenile and plastic lava fragments to form small stalactites at the bottom of the lava field.
Simultaneously, the northern pit crater started to build rare hawaiian-type phenomena, a steep-sided fragile spatter cone (also called a hornito) resulting from vigorous lava spattering. This volcanic feature forms when part of lava, flowing within lava tube, escapes through a hole out of lava tube due to strong degassing in the form of spattering.
