Merapi (Central Java, Indonesia): The activity of the volcano continues at high levels.
Large-sized block-and-ash flows persist to tumble down from the lava dome. Such current was being observed tonight at 20:40 local time, traveling through the Bebeng ravine caused numerous incandescent avalanches. The flow reached a length about 2 km distance from the summit.

The main reason for these flows might be the sudden accumulation of magma batch rising into the southwestern lava dome and destabilization of the dome area, resulting in block-and-ash flows.
Pyroclastic flows are deadly, turbulent hot avalanche of lava rock fragments of all sizes embedded in a mixture of turbulent gas and ash racing down slopes.

Pyroclastic flows continue to be triggered from the active southwestern lava dome area. Today, on 12 March, a large-sized block-and-ash flow occurred, tumbling down over the western and southwestern flanks. Hot rock falls reached a quite considerable sliding distance of about 4-5 km from the summit.
Volcanic ash might affect and appear in southwestern villages along Krasak and Bebeng rivers by covering most of the surfaces.
