Tenerife (Canary Islands (Spain)): A shallow magnitude 3 earthquake occurred almost directly under the summit of Teide volcano in 3 km depth today (at 12:18 UTC).
Whether the quake is volcanic in origin and might be a sign of a gradual reawakening of the volcano is impossible to say, but it is important to follow the volcano's seismic activity closely.

Another brief, but violent explosion occurred at the volcano two hours ago, in the early afternoon local time (13:24 AKST or 22:24 GMT).
It only lasted about 5 minutes, but produced an ash plume that reached 35,000 ft (12 km) altitude and was also spotted by pilots en route nearby.

Erta Ale (Danakil depression, Ethiopia): Participants of our just finished Desert, salt and volcanoes tour informed us that although no longer actively overflowing, the level of lava lake inside Erta Ale´s summit caldera is very high, suggesting that more overflows will occur in the near future!
