Bogoslof (United States, Aleutian Islands): After a pause of almost two months with no detected significant activity, the volcano produced another large explosion last night from 22:32 local time (06:32 this morning UTC). The explosive eruption lasted 73 minutes and generated an ash plume that rose to approx. 34,000 ft and moved southwest. The Aviation Color Code of Bogoslof was raised to RED and the Alert Level to WARNING. According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, "Bogoslof volcano remains at a heightened state of unrest and in an unpredictable condition. Additional explosions producing high-altitude volcanic clouds could occur at any time. Low-level explosive activity that is below our ability to detect in our data sources may be occurring. Cleveland (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): (17 May) A small explosion occurred from the volcano last night at 19:17 local time (03:17 UTC this morning), the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported.
