Öraefajökull (Iceland): The volcano is continuing to show signs of unrest. Over the past months, elevated numbers of small earthquakes have continued to occur beneath the glacier-covered volcano, suggesting that fresh magma has been accumulating at shallow depth around 5 km.
This could be precursory sign of a new eruption in a not-too-distant future, but it cannot be predicted whether and when it might occur, which could be months or several years from now.

Barren Island (Indian Ocean): The mainly effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Recent satellite images show an active field of fresh lava flows towards the northwest form the active cone.
Heavy steaming is occurring from the summit vent and possibly also from the coast where lava is likely entering the Indian Ocean.
Andaman Aquaholics, a small local company that charters boat trips to the island, sent us pictures from last week showing the active lava flow and strombolian activity or fountaining from the summit vent.

Kuchinoerabu-jima (Ryukyu Islands): A new and very small eruption is occurring, with ash plumes rising only a few thousand feet above sea level. This follows the unrest in August, when the Alert Level was raised to 4, as there were concerns about a repeat of the large explosion in 2015. This subsequently declined, the Alert Level dropped to 3, where it remains. ... [more]
