Stromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): The activity at the volcano remains above average. Our colleague Marc Szeglat (www.vulkane.net) reported that continuous spattering, in addition to sometimes relatively strong strombolian explosions, can often be seen from from the NE vent.
A total of at least 7 vents are currently active (spattering, strong degassing and/or explosions) in the crater terrace.
The alert status of the volcano had been raised last week.

Etna (Sicily, Italy): Italian scientists have analyzed satellite data from the Italian Cosmo-SkyMed and the European Sentinel satellites, which passed over Etna both before and after the short, but intense flank eruption that began on 24 December 2018 and the seismic crisis that accompanied this event and culminated in the 4.8 magnitude early on 26 Dec with an epicenter near the villages Viagrande, Trecastagni and Fleri on the southeastern side of Etna.
Comparing the data, they were able to calculate how the shape of the volcano changed due to the intrusion of the magma, which in parts rose to the surface through the new eruptive fissures, and in parts became "stuck" as shallow and deeper intrusions. The results are stunning:

Shiveluch (Kamchatka): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 17000 ft (5200 m) altitude or flight level 170 and is moving at 30 kts in SE direction.
The full report is as follows: VA EMISSIONS CONTINUING OBS VA DTG:02/1120Z

Lewotolo (Lesser Sunda Islands): The volcano observatory raised the alert status of the volcano to 2 ("Waspada" on the Indonesian 1-4 scale), as an increase of volcanic earthquakes and fumarolic activity had been observed during the past week.
The observatory reported a light steam / gas plume rising approx. 500 m above the summit crater of Lowotolok. Since 29 December, the seismic network detected 4 earthquake swarms, one shallow and 3 deeper volcanic earthquakes. This could indicate magma intrusions under the volcano, which could (but not must) lead to a new eruption of the volcano in a near to medium-term future (weeks to months).

Krakatau (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 35000 ft (10700 m) altitude or flight level 350 .
The full report is as follows: INTERMITTENT VA TO FL350 MOV E
...2 Jan:
Sometimes strong explosive activity seems to continue at the volcano: VAAC Darwin reported an ash plume that rose to 40,000 ft (12 km) altitude this morning as well as "regular, intermittent" emissions of volcanic ash to 35,000 ft (10 km).
Seismic activity is still relatively low, but has picked up again after a phase of near absence at the end of 2018.
