Stromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): The activity remains very intense at the volcano. Continuous spattering and sometimes very strong, lava-rich explosions occur from the NE summit vents in particular.
The activity is so strong that it is also visible on satellite imagery, showing strong hot spots at the vents of the volcano's crater.
...5 Jan:
The activity at the volcano has further increased this evening: several vents in the summit area are active at once, in particular the NE cluster of vents where a new cinder cone is growing and continuous lava spattering as well as larger strombolian explosions with plenty of red hot lava spatter ejected to probably more than 200 m height occur.
The volcano has already been in an elevated state of activity for several days, and an official warning had been issued a week ago. In addition, the summit area has been closed to the public due to increased risk.

While activity continues at Anak Krakatau island with little changes over the past day, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) published a worrying observation: new cracks were discovered that run through the remaining island.
