Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion): (4 Mar) The eruption at the volcano is continuing with no signs of ending soon. Since a few days, the so-far only modest, but stable lava effusion rate has increased. Two more effusive vents opened up downhill on the eruptive fissure and there are now 3 lava flows slowly descending the slope of the Grand Brûlé ("Great Burn").
Despite this, the effusion rate, estimated at around 1-10 cubic meters per second, is still comparatively low and hence, the eruption is unlikely to affect the coastal area, even though the lava flows are directed towards there.
