Karymsky (Kamchatka): The volcano remains in a state of elevated activity. Several strong explosions have occurred during the past days, producing ash plumes that rose up to 3-4 km above the volcano, as VAAC Tokyo frequently reports.
Most ash is drifting east, generating a dark blanket on the snow-clad landscape until the coast. If conditions allow, we will try to visit the volcano next week during our volcano special tour to Kamchatka.
In addition to the observations of ash plumes, several earthquakes of magnitudes above 4 have been recorded near the volcano recently, the latest a mag 4.4 event on Friday morning.
