Ruapehu (North Island): (17 Apr) Another phase of increased crater lake temperatures has been recorded at the Te Wai ā-moe (Crater Lake) Mt Ruapehu in combination with moderate levels of volcanic tremor.
For the last 10 years temperatures of the summit crater lake have cycled between ~15 and 45°C over 12 month periods. Since September 2018 lake temperatures have remained at ~30°C. Over the past two weeks the temperatures have risen again at a rate of 0.5°C per day, to 42°C on April 9. Consistant with previous periods heating cycles a moderate volcanic tremor has accompanied this rise in temperature.
