Currently, the volcano seems to be relatively quiet (something that can change very quickly, though). Average seismic activity, ground deformation, and thermal signals are low. Only dense steam plumes are currently rising from the summit craters, mostly Bocca Nuova and SE crater complex.
Shiveluch (Kamchatka): (26 Aug) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Anchorage (VAAC) issued the following report: VA FROM ERUPTION 8/24
Asama (Honshu): (26 Aug) Another small eruption occurred at the volcano yesterday evening at 19:28 local time, producing a plume of steam with some ash that rose approx. 600 m above the active crater.
A similar eruption had taken place on 7 Aug when the alert level was raised to 3 (on a scale of 1-5). It had later been lowered to 2 on 19 Aug. Yesterday's activity did not prompt JMA to raise the alert level again, but this is likely to occur should the activity of the volcano increase again in the near future.
Suwanose-jima (Ryukyu Islands): (26 Aug) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: ERUPTED AT 20190826/0702Z FL070 STNR OBS VA DTG:26/0700Z
Sangeang Api (Indonesia): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: INTERMITTENT DISCRETE ERUPTIONS TO FL100, LAST OBS AT 26/0930Z
Krakatau (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): A new eruptive phase is in progress. It seems to be stronger than the intermittent explosions that occurred sporadically during the past weeks, as the volcano observatory raised the color code to RED.
The following is from the original warning note issued to aviation a few minutes ago:
