Volcanic activity at Soufrière Hills was low during 26 December to 2 January, with low counts of all seismic signals. The seismic network recorded 2 rockfalls, 9 hybrid earthquakes, and a swarm of small hybrid earthquakes during 31 December to 2 January. A sulfur-dioxide flux rate of 500 tons per day was measured at the beginning of the report period, but instrument problems and unfavorable wind directions hampered measurements during the rest of the week.
According to seismic data, during 1-5 January weak-to-moderate explosions occurred from Santa María's Santiaguito lava-dome complex. The explosions caused block-and-ash avalanches to travel 100-250 m down the volcano's SW and S flanks and down Caliente cone. Small amounts of ash fell around the volcano, including in Monte Bellow, La Florida, and El Faro ranches (locally termed fincas).
According the Oficina Nacional de Emergencia Ministerio del Interior (ONEMI), on 9 December small amounts of fine ash were emitted from fumaroles at Lascar. The following day activity was at "normal" levels, with only gas and steam emitted. No increased seismicity was recorded.
Seismicity was above background levels at Kliuchevskoi during 26 December to 2 January, with ~33 shallow M 1.9-2.2 earthquakes and a large number of weaker events recorded. Gas-and-steam plumes rose to low levels above the volcano. Kliuchevskoi remained at Concern Color Code Orange.
During 30 December to 5 January, volcanic activity continued at Kilauea's Pu`u `O`o crater, but surface lava flows were not observed on Pulama pali or the coastal flat below Paliuli and no lava entered the ocean. During 30 and 31 December, much lava was emitted from vents on the W side of Pu`u `O`o's crater floor. Nearly the entire W part of the crater floor was covered by new lava flows.
Seismicity was above background levels at Karymsky during 26 December to 2 January, with 200-270 shallow earthquakes recorded per day. Possible ash-and-gas plumes rose 2-3.5 km above the volcano. On 25, 29, and 31 December explosions with accompanying pyroclastic flows may have been recorded.
During 1-5 January, lava emitted from Fuego flowed 70-100 m from the crater. Avalanches from the lava-flow fronts traveled W toward Santa Teresa ravine and toward Trinidad ravine. Seismic stations on the volcano recorded almost continuous harmonic tremor with moderate frequency and amplitude.
During 31 December to 6 January, low-intensity eruptions at Dukono continued to produce plumes to low levels that extended to ~185 km SE.

Based on information from the Mexico City MWO, the Washington VAAC reported that an eruption at Colima on 30 December produced an ash plume to a height of ~10.4 km a.s.l. The plume drifted NE and a small area of ash was visible on satellite imagery.

During 24-30 December, there were emissions of gas, steam, and ash, and low levels of seismicity at Tungurahua. On 28 December emissions sent plumes ~1.5 km above the volcano's summit that drifted E and NE. Ash fell in the sector of Runtún NNE of the volcano and in the city of Baños on the volcano's N flank.

Based on information from JMA, the Tokyo VAAC reported that several small ash emissions from Suwanose-jima on 27 and 28 December rose to unknown heights. Ash from an eruption on 28 December at 0820 reached a height of ~1.5 km a.s.l. and drifted E.

On 30 December weak-to-moderate explosions occurred at Santa Maria's Santiaguito lava-dome complex. The explosions sent ash-and-gas plumes 500-700 m above Caliente cone. They drifted SW and deposited fine ash in a mountainous region with several ranches (locally termed fincas) including, El Faro, Florida, Monte Claro and Monte Bello.

During December relatively low-level volcanic activity continued at Popocatépetl, with low-intensity steam-and-gas emissions occurring. An aerial photograph taken on 10 December showed subsidence of the inner crater and no external lava dome at the bottom of the crater. The Alert Level remained at Yellow Phase II.

During 19-26 December, seismicity at Kliuchevskoi was above background levels, with the occurrence of ~135 large shallow earthquakes between M 1.9-2.3 and a large number of weaker events. Gas-and-steam plumes rose to low levels above the volcano. Kliuchevskoi remained at Concern Color Code Orange.

During 24-30 December, no active lava flows were observed on Pulama pali or the coastal flat below Paliuli and no lava entered the ocean. Eruptive activity continued at the Pu`u `O`o vent. Few earthquakes occurred at Kilauea's summit, only steady weak tremor was recorded.

On 23 December at 0359 and on 24 December at 1605 KVERT recorded possible explosions at Karymsky that were accompanied by pyroclastic flows. During 19-26 December, seismicity at Karymsky was above background levels, with 40-200 earthquakes occurring per day. In addition, possible gas-and-ash explosions rose 1-2 km above the volcano.
