During 25 July-1 August, OVDAS-SERNAGEOMIN reported that the eruption from the Cordón Caulle rift zone, part of the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcanic complex, continued and seismicity indicated that the lava flow remained active. Cloud cover prevented observations by a video camera on 25 July, though satellite imagery detected a plume that drifted 200 km SE. On 26 July the camera recorded a plume that rose 2 km above the crater and incandescence up to 500 m above the crater was observed at night.

During 22-29 July seismicity was above background levels and weak volcanic tremor continued to be detected. Satellite images showed a bright thermal anomaly on the volcano all week and seismic data indicated that possible ash plumes rose to an altitude of 3 km (10,000 ft) a.s.l.

HVO reported that two lava lakes at Kilauea were active during 27 July-2 August. The level of the summit lava lake fluctuated deep in the 150-m-diameter vent inset within the E wall of Halema'uma'u Crater and circulated with various patterns. Periodic measurements indicated that the gas plume from the vent continued to deposit variable amounts of ash and occasionally fresh spatter nearby.

A thermal anomaly on the volcano was detected by satellite during 22 and 24-27 July; cloud cover prevented observations on the other days. The Aviation Color Code remained at Orange.

Based on information from JMA, the Tokyo VAAC reported that during 27 July-2 August plumes from Sakura-jima rose to altitudes of 1.8-3 km (6,000-10,000 ft) a.s.l. During 28-30 July and 1 August, pilots observed ash plumes that rose to altitudes of 2.1-3 km (7,000-10,000 ft) a.s.l. Plumes occasionally drifted SW, S, SE, and W.
Wed, 27 Jul 2011, 06:00Sezione di Catania - Osservatorio Etneo reported that during the late evening of 1 August a vast accumulation of incandescent material appeared at the base of Stromboli's N1 vent, the northernmost active vent within the crater terrace at about 750 m elevation. Within a few minutes, the material collapsed and slid downslope, creating two small lobes of lava. The more easterly flow descended the N slope of the Sciara del Fuoco, generating small landslides from the loose material on the slope, and marking the first lava effusion event outside of the crater since a small emission during 11-12 December 2010.

RVO reported that white vapor occasionally tinted blue rose from Rabaul caldera's Tavurvur cone during 1-28 July. Dull incandescence emanated from a small caved-in vent on the floor of the crater. The start of an ash eruption on 29 July was marked by an emergent low-frequency tremor and slowly rising gray ash plumes.
Wed, 27 Jul 2011, 06:00OVSICORI-UNA reported that on 23 July a group of observatory scientists visited Poás to document changes that had occurred there during the previous weeks. They noted that the subtle, semicircular scarp observed a few months earlier had rapidly progressed to a sharp scarp on the SE shore of Laguna Caliente. The 60-m-wide, 2.5-m-high scarp degassed and geyser activity was observed on the W end, next to the steaming lake.

CVGHM reported increased seismicity from Marapi during 21 June-3 August. Observers noted that during June and July white plumes rose 15-75 m above the summit craters. On 1 August white plumes rose 15 m above the main crater; fog prevented observations the next day.

Wed, 27 Jul 2011, 06:00Sezione di Catania - Osservatorio Etneo reported that in the evening of 28 July Strombolian explosions from the active vent on the E flank of Etna's SE Crater cone were weak and sporadic, then ceased during the night. Throughout 29 July the crater was quiet. In the early morning of 30 July intermittent incandescence from the crater gradually intensified and became more frequent, then was followed by intense Strombolian activity accompanied by loud detonations.

AVO reported that on 2 August the Volcano Alert Level for Cleveland was raised to Watch and the Aviation Color Code was raised to Orange due to the formation of a 40-m-wide lava dome in the summit crater that was observed on 29 July. The lava dome was extruded sometime after 7 July following the last clear view of the summit area, however thermal anomalies observed since 19 July suggested that the dome had extruded since that time.

Tue, 26 Jul 2011, 20:16Kīlauea volcano continues to pressurize with new magma, uplifting the floor of Pu`u `O`o crater on the order of 1 meter / 3 feet PER DAY over the last month! This uplift has allowed lava flows to emit from the base of the inner crater walls, filling the neighboring craters (MLK & Puka Nui) to overflowing to the southwest starting last night! The inner crater lava flows show up via webcam (check our link below), with visible cracking occuring as the whole crater floor is pistoned upwards!

Another powerful paroxysm occurred early today at Etna volcano from the new SE crater, making this episode Nr 7 of this kind in 2011, almost exactly 6 days after the last eruption on 19 July. It seems that the intervals between single paroxysms are becoming shorter.

Satellite imagery showed that the plume drifted 80 km E, becoming diffuse. Incandescence up to 500 m above the crater was observed at night.

Wed, 20 Jul 2011, 06:00CVGHM reported that on 3 July an explosion of incandescent material from Soputan was followed by a 6-km-high ash plume and a pyroclastic flow that traveled as far as 4 km W. Later that day a dense white plume rose 50 m above the crater. On 20 July CVGHM noted that since 4 July seismicity had decreased and only diffuse white plumes rose 75 m above the crater until 18 July.

CVGHM reported that during 20-21 July seismicity and visual observations of Tompaluan crater, in the saddle between the Lokon-Empung peaks, indicated that activity continued to be high. On 20 July plumes rose 100-500 m above the crater, and during 21-24 July white plumes rose 100-300 m above the crater. CVGHM noted that, since the eruption on 18 July, most data showed a decline in activity and therefore on 24 July the Alert Level was lowered to 3 (on a scale of 1-4).

On 24 July vigorous Strombolian activity started within the crater, gradually increased through the night, and culminated on 25 July. Strombolian activity gradually turned into a pulsating lava fountain, accompanied by increasingly voluminous ash emissions.

Cloud cover prevented observations during 21 and 23-26 July. No current seismic information was available because Cleveland does not have a real-time seismic network.

Based on analysis of data collected by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department (VMGD), the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory reported that a small series of explosions from Aoba occurred on 10 July. Photos showed that the volcano was quiet on 12 July, although ongoing earthquakes were detected. On 18 July the Vanuatu Volcano Alert Level (VVAL) remained at 1 (on a scale of 0-4).

Eruption of Etna on 19 July 2011
A new powerful paroxysm occurred on Etna volcano from the SE crater during the second half of the night 18-19 July. Tom who was guiding a group of VolcanoDiscovery were able to witness the eruption: during the afternoon of 18 July, we visited the area around the new cone at the SE flank of the SE crater (now often called the "New SE crater", or the former "pit") and noticed many radial fractures in the ground SE of the cone, but only weak ash emissions suggesting that magma had dropped deep within the conduit. Around midnight, we noticed that strombolian activity had resumed around midnight and tremor was rapidly rising, and decided to walk to a viewpoint on the rim of the Valle del Bove, where we arrived at around 2:30am. At that time, strombolian activity had apparently just turned into fountaining (other observers who had been on the spot half an hour earlier did only report strombolian activity and thought it was decreasing...). The fountains quickly increased to ca. 500 m height, and a lava flow had started to advance a few 100 meters. At the peak of the eruption at around 3am, the fountains pulsated between an estimated 500-800 m height, with large incandescent bombs visible more than 1 km above the vent and landing behind SE crater. The lava flow advanced with 3 main branches onto the steeper parts of the wall of the Valle del Bove. The fountain-fed ash plume drifted east towards Giarre.

Satellite imagery showed a thermal anomaly on the lava dome during 10-11 and 14 July and a gas-and-steam plume that drifted 38 km SE on 10 July. Ground-based observers noted that ash plumes from explosions rose to an altitude of 6 km (19,700 ft) a.s.l. on 11 and 14 July.
