In the recent days, Santiaguito has been producing a number of larger-than-average explosions that caused ash fall in the surrounding areas. Ash plumes from these explosions rose 1.5-3.2 km / 5000-10,000 ft above the lava dome and were sometimes accompanied by small pyroclastic flows. Read more...

The Tolbachik fissure eruption at night, two areas of activity can clearly be seen. KVERT
On 29 November, the Tokyo VAAC reported that ash plumes from Tolbachik reached heights of 3.5 km. The MODVOLC also detected thermal anomalies and a strong S02 output is seen. On 29 November, the KVERT reported that the fissure had opened up in two places (in the southern cone area); the first is located 4.5 km from Tolbachik and contains 4 or 5 eruptive vents, the second is located 6.5 km downstream from the volcano and has 2 or 3 eruptive vents. Ground observers reported that the eruption started as a series of small eruptions that progressed into two fissures. Strong strombolian explosion from the active crater of Batu Tara on 25 Nov 2012
A group of VolcanoDiscovery visited Batu Tara volcano from 24-29 November. During the whole 4 days stay, exceptionally good weather conditions permitted to observe strombolian and effusive activity from the active crater located at about 500 m altitude high in the large eastern collapse scar of the stratovolcano. The Tokyo VAAC reported that an eruption of Tolbachik, Kamchatka began at around 10:45 (GMT). An initial ash plume rose to a height of 10 KM; ash was seen in satellite images. Read more... read all

In a special notice by the KVERT(Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team)on 27 November, the Alert Level was raised from GREEN to YELLOW. The volcano's last eruption was in 1975 with a large basaltic fissure eruption from its SSW flank dubbed 'the great Tolbachik fissure eruption' Read more... read all

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake was detected at Loihi volcano on 25 November. We will wait and see if the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has any more information on this.

Based on information from the VSI (Volcanologal Survey of Indonesia, the Darwin VAAC reported that at 03:00 (local time?) on 26 November, data suggested an ash plume from Lokon-Empung. Read more... read all
