A cellection of scientific articles that summarize various aspects of recent geolphysical studies, monitoring and results about Etna volcano, one of the most studies volcanoes in the world. Recommended for students of geology or volcanology involved with Mt. Etna.
Although not up to date when it comes to recent eruptions and recent research, this book, unfortunately out of print and hard to get nowadays, is still a classic work about Etna. Very well written, it covers many aspects of the phenomenon volcano of Etna, from the ethymology of its name, the cultural history of its environment, Etna's, detailed accounts of past eruptions (prior to 86), geological background and the volcano's evolution.
"Italian Volcanoes" presents the origin and geology of Itay's volcanism and has individual chapters devoted to each active volcano. It contains descriptions and geological information for a number of important eruptions (e.g. the huge eruption of Etna in 1669) and modern interpretations to explain the causes and underlying processes. For Etna, it has 39 pages divided into general descriptions and a field guide. As the companion book "Volcanoes of Europe", "Italian Volcanoes" provide well-written and easily understandable information for everyone seriously interested in the fascinating world of active volcanism in Italy.
Current activity of Bardarbunga volcano, Iceland: An intense seismic crisis started at Bárdarbunga volcano on 16 August 2014 and is continuing at the time of writing (23 Aug). It may or may not lead to a volcanic eruption, possibly under the Vatnajökull ice cap. Follow updates as news come in!
