A new strong eruption occurred at Soputan volcano in North Sulawesi Sunday night. The eruption lasted about 4 hours and produced an ash column of 5 km height. Tungurahua volcano's activity remains at similar moderate levels as yesterday, lower than compared to a few days ago. Explosions every few hours are accompanied by strong cannon-shot noises and eject glowing bombs to up to 500 m height. Steam and ash plumes rise up to 4 km above the crater. Tungurahua volcano has been very active the past days, with continous ash emissions and occasional large explosions producing ash plumes up to 32,000 ft (ca. 10 km) altitude. Tungurahua volcano emits a near constant steam and ash plume rising on average 1.5 km with peaks of up to 4 km above the crater. This activity produces significant ash fall in areas west of the volcano. Intermittent explosions throw bombs to 500 m height and up to 1.5 km radial distance.
