Bulusan volcano (Luzon Island, Philippines): satellite imagery revealed ash-covered surface following recent strong explosion

The recent powerful eruption has already been detected from space by the Sentinel-2 acquisition from 28 April. Using a false color composite is clearly distinguishable an ash and lapilli fall (so-called tephra) in the vicinity of the volcano.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported increased seismicity at Bulusan. Seismicity recorded from 0300 on 12 April until 2200 on 21 April consisted of 94 weak volcano-tectonic earthquakes indicating rock fracturing, another four low-frequency volcanic earthquakes indicating fluid movement.
