Steam from the Sileri crater (Dieng volcano) during yesterday's eruption (image: Dok via SuaraMerdeka)
A sudden steam-driven explosion (phreatic eruption) occurred yesterday from the Sileri crater in the Dieng volcanic complex, injuring several people. According to BNPB (Civil Protection), 17 people suffered mostly minor injuries (burns, fractures, cuts) and at least 10 were transported to a hospital. ...more

Alert level was lowered back to normal (1 out of 4). After the peak of the latest crisis in March 2013, activity (in particular gas emission levels) has calmed down to normal levels.

VSI raised the alert level to the third highest level Siaga (3 out of 4), because significant changes were observed at the crater lake. The most spectacular was the change of the lake water color to dark brown on 24 March. ...more

During 7-11 March monitoring instruments detected carbon dioxide plumes from Timbang Crater drifting 50-200 m S; the concentration increased during 9-10 March. A strong sulfur odor was also reported, along with dead animals near the crater on 7 March. ...more

The seismic activity at the the Timbang crater in the Dieng Plateau in Central Java has calmed down, but the monitored CO2 levels are staying dangerously high.

Timbang crater at Simbar village, Dieng volcano complex, is now on high alert status level 3. Inhabitants are being evacuated from a zone 1 km around the crater. ...more

The seismicity at Dieng Volcanic Complex has increased. On 22 May new white steam plumes were observed at the Timbang cone and CO2 levels increased as well. CVGHM raised the Alert Level to 2 (on a scale of 1-4).
