Middle part of Southwest Rift Zone at Mauna Loa volcano (image: HVO)
During the past week the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded 65 small-magnitude earthquakes on the volcano's summit and upper-elevation flanks. Most of these earthquakes occurred at shallow depths of less than 8 km (~5 miles) below ground level. The largest earthquake was with magnitude M 3.2 event that occurred below the volcano's Southwest Rift Zone on 2 June. ...more read all

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded 92 small-magnitude earthquakes on Mauna Loa’s summit and upper-elevations. Most of these earthquakes occurred at shallow depths of less than 8 kilometers (~5 miles) below sea level. Slow summit inflation continues which HVO claim is “consistent with magma supply to the volcano's shallow storage system.” Gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures remain stable.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded 78 small-magnitude earthquakes on Mauna Loa’s summit and upper-elevation flanks over the past week. The largest of these earthquakes measured at magnitude 2.3 beneath the south caldera. Most of these earthquakes occurred at depths of less than 8 kilometers (~5 miles) below ground level. ...more read all

Over the past week, HVO recorded 47 small-magnitude earthquakes on the Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks. Most of these earthquakes occurred at shallow depths of less than 8 kilometers (~5 miles) below ground level, with the largest measuring magnitude 2.1 on the volcano's northwest flank. There is continued slow summit inflation, which HVO state it consistent with magma supply to the volcano's shallow storage system. Gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures remain stable.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 42 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the Mauna Loa’s upper elevations. Most of these events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 km (~3 miles) below ground level. There were no events on Mauna Loa above magnitude 2.0. There is continued slow summit inflation, which HVO say is consistent with magma supply to the volcano's shallow storage system. Gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures remain stable.

Location of earthquakes under Mauna Loa over the past week (C) U. S. Geological Survey
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 87 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the volcano's upper elevations over the past week. Most of these events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 kilometers (~3 miles) below ground level, with the strongest earthquake measuring magnitude 2.3 on the morning of March 19. This earthquake was located in the radial vents area west of the summit caldera within the volcano. There is continued summit inflation which HVO assert is due to “consistent with magma supply to the volcano's shallow storage system.” Both gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures remain stable.
