The volcano continues to be active, and produce natrocarbonatite lava that slowly fills up the crater. A small cone of natrocarbonatite lava is forming on the western side of Lengai's crater, which formed in 2008 during a series of violent explosions that destroyed the former bizarre crater terrace filling the north crater, famous for the bizarre "hornitos" of white and gray lava. ... An explosive eruption from Tanzania's Ol Doinyo volcano in 1966. Explosive activity began in August 1966, near the end of an eruption beginning in 1960 that consisted of quiet emission of lava flows in the summit crater.
