Introduction
The low basaltic William stratovolcano of Pleistocene age dominates the northern end of Erromango Island. Headward erosion by streams has excavated a 5-6 km diameter erosion caldera which is partially filled by a basaltic lava plug (Colley and Ash, 1971).---
