Background
Laguna Verde is a 5464-m-high stratovolcano located west of Colachi volcano and is one of a cluster of young stratovolcanoes north and east of Lascar volcano. Laguna Verde volcano was considered to be of Pleistocene-Holocene age (González-Ferrán, 1995), but de Silva (2007 pers. comm.) indicated it was of probable Pleistocene age. The andesitic volcano, rising 1200 m above its base, collapsed to the north, producing a debris avalanche that dammed the Quebrada Portor, forming a lake.---
