Background
The Middle Gobi volcanic field consists of three basaltic cinder cones in south-central Mongolia, about 150 km south of the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The 60-80 m high cones were constructed along an E-W-trending fault and are possibly of late-Pleistocene to Holocene age.---
